The Maryville High School Orchestra is directed by Bill Robinson who is currently in his thirtieth year teaching strings in the Maryville City School System. He holds both Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Arts Degrees from the University of Tennessee and has played violin with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he has both conducted and performed in the Maryville-Alcoa College Community Orchestra.
The goal of the Maryville High School Orchestra Program is to give students the musical skills to create and to enjoy music performed on stringed instruments. In order to accomplish this goal, students are introduced to classical masterpieces as well as movie scores. They study jazz, folk and contemporary pop. By learning the technique on their instruments necessary to perform all styles of music, students develop understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of a wide array of musical styles. It is our objective that they become life-long participants and supporters of music-making.
